Opening in 1985 and named “Independent Retailer of the Year” by the National Association of Recording Merchandisers (NARM) in 1996, Penny Lane has gone through some changes over the years, going from eight stores throughout Los Angeles to the single current location in Pasadena, California. A true “mom-and-pop” operation, original owner Steve Bicksler is still regularly involved with the day-to-day operation, while his wife Bonnie handles most of the administrative duties.
Penny Lane divides its focus into music and video, with one of the best vinyl selections in Los Angeles, while specializing in all genres of film on DVD. It was voted "Best of Pasadena" by the readers of Pasadena Weekly.
Current products include used iPods, new and used CDs, LPs, 45s, and DVDs. DJ gear, posters, apparel, buttons, and other various lifestyle items are also offered.
Employees over the years have consisted of a who's who of record store legends. Many of our current staff have worked here for a decade or longer. Why do we do it? God help us, we don't know - it must be something in our blood. When you come in, we'll try not to get any on you.
